I'm sure your good people..but I still don't know you..

I am constantly amazed at the TRUST people put in virtual strangers where their children are concerned. I recently read someone's blog that I know where they had JUST MET a couple and DAYS LATER their daughter was spending the night at their house having a "slumber party".
Talk about lazy, stupid, country freaking parenting. "Hi..you might be a child molester, and the reprecussions of your raping our 5 year old will have lasting dire consequences..but REALLY? I'm always looking for a way to reduce my time with these brats sooooo...SURE she'll be by around 7!"
ARE? YOU? KIDDING? ME?
I was talking to my BFF S and I told her that my daughter will NEVER go to a slumber party. That most child molesters have not EVER been caught (according to my friend who works for law enforcement) and the ones who have, usually have molested MANY MANY kids prior to being busted. S said she agreed. She said that my view is no longer uncommon. She tried to have an overnight camping trip for her 12 year old son's b'day party, and NO ONE wanted their kid to go.
Slumber parties went out with the Brady Bunch.
The other thing that irritates me is our neighbors who constantly say "If you ever need to drop her off and get a break I'm here". Well..that's lovely but I had a 35 year break and I'm in it to win it. I don't need babysitters, grandparents or strangers doing my job. If it's just grandma maybe. But how many people drop off their children with grandma and HER HUSBAND THAT YOU WERE NOT RAISED WITH. What are HIS children like?! Will THEY be around?!
My neighbor quit her job to do daycare so she could stay home with her son. An honorable thing. The problem I have is that NOT ONE of her clients checked her out. They met with her for five minutes in her living room and next day....HERE IS MY KID!! For EIGHT HOURS A DAY AND SOME WEEKENDS CAUSE WE'RE REALLY EFFING LAZY!!
What they do not know is that she LOST custody of TWO OTHER children to her ex. She is bi-polar. (Not sure why she lost custody. Bad divorce, she's crazy..who knows?) And her husband gives me the creeps. Nothing you could point to concretely. But check THIS OUT.
We were outside this summer watching my daughter, her son, and the neighbor girl across the street riding bikes. The neighbor girl S..said to my daughter "To go REALLY fast you need to stand while you pump the pedals. See? Watch my butt..bouncy bouncy up and down and then your bike goes REALLY FAST".
My day care keeping neighbors husband raised one eyebrow and said "REAAALLLLY?" Like he was turned on or amused or SOMETHING.
SHE'S FREAKING SEVEN YEARS OLD.
I gave him a disgusted look.
The wife said "I hate that little girl. She should not be saying that" blah blah blah like it is HER fault.
SHE'S FREAKING SEVEN YEARS OLD.
Um ...yeah..I will NOT be CALLING YOU when I need "a break" you freaking weirdo.
My daughter has NEVER spent one night ANYWHERE where I was not present.
I even make her sleep in my room when we have guests.
Most children molested are molested by a family friend, a playmates parent, or a family member.
Why chance it?!!
Only 1 in 10 will tell their parents. I'm sure we all assume OUR little darling will be THE 1. But what of THAT? If every one DID tell them..by then it's ALREADY HAPPENED.
I assume the best but plan for the worst.
And I stay educated and ALERT.
